“Hey, let’s walk on the tracks.” Yolanda headed down the hill.
She and Jimmy balanced on the rails. Yolanda jumped down and pressed her ear to the rail. “There’s a train. When it gets closer, we’ll lie down. Let it pass over.”
“I don’t know.”
“It’ll be a rush.”
He liked the way she said rush.
“I didn’t tell my mom I was leaving.”
“It’s coming! Hurry, lay down, Jimmy.”
Jimmy was pulled in by her excitement. She held his hand. His heart was pounding. He could hear the train, and the rails were rattling.
